The old town has preserved its Medieval appearance (due to its finely-worked architecture), ancient and numerous churches (Lucca is also called the “city of 100 churches”) with its many towers, bell towers and monumental Renaissance palaces.

In addition to the historical museums like the Puccini Museum, the Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Mansi, Museo Nazionale Guinigi and the Pinacoteca Nazionale there is also a beautiful museum of contemporary art Lu.C.C.A situated in the historical centre close to Piazza dell’Anfiteatro.

Lucca is buzzing with many events most of the year.  Starting with the Antiche Camelie della Lucchesia, a show dedicated to the beautiful Camelia flower,  the Lucca Summer Festival in July, with many artists attending from all over the world, the Open air cinema in July and August, Settembre Lucchese, a month of tradition and fun, Religious festivals and fairs, exhibitions,  Lucca Jazz Donna Festival in October and the world famous Lucca Comics & Game Festival early November.

And let’s not forget the trinket and fresh food and vegetables open air markets.

Food & Wine

The Lucca cuisine is typical for its genuineness and simplicity.

It is a cuisine of peasant origin, made of poor ingredients and linked to the seasonality of the crops.

After an enthralling walk on the walls, satisfy your appetite and your palate, taking advantage of some quaint restaurant that offer typical local dishes, like the Zuppa di Farro, Tordelli Lucchesi and the Buccellato. You will be really spoiled for choice!
